Founder Frank Crail dreamed of raising his family in a quaint, small-town environment. After settling in the Victorian-era town of Durango, Colorado, Crail surveyed the town’s local residents and merchants, eventually narrowing his options down to two: a car wash or a chocolate shop. Today, the legacy of his choice lives on with a shop on Main Street that fills the surrounding air with the sweet, satisfying scent of rich chocolate, drawing in passersby – locals and tourists alike – to satisfy their cravings with a confectionary experience like no other.
From that first tiny shop, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory grew to need a 53,000-square-foot factory, situated on the outskirts of Durango. The factory is built to service hundreds of franchised locations around the world, delivering sweet chocolates and tasty confections from its fleet of refrigerated trucks.
At Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory store locations, chocolatiers prepare a variety of decadent treats like caramel and candy apples, fudge, chocolates, and other confections in full view of the customer using traditional, time-tested cooking methods and utensils like copper kettles on gas-fired stoves, marble slab cooling tables, and more.
